A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been cleared of raping a girl of 14 but found guilty of having sex with her.

Farhaad Ali was remanded into custody today for an assessment of the danger he poses to the public.

He will be sentenced to a "significant" term of imprisonment when he is brought back to court on July 30.

Ali was acquitted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday of forcing the Asian girl to have sex with him in the bedroom at his home in Wheatlands Drive, Manningham, Bradford, in August, 2013.

But the jury found him guilty of having sex with her when he knew she was 14, after driving her to the address late at night.

She was reported missing from home and a police safeguarding officer sent her clothing for scientific analysis after becoming suspicious about what had happened to her.

DNA evidence on the girl's knickers matched that of Ali.

She later picked him out at a police identification procedure.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC adjourned the case for a report from the probation service.

He locked Ali up in the meantime, saying he could not trust him not to do something silly, or run away.
