A TRAGIC fiancee whose soulmate was killed in a motorbike crash has vowed to fight on in her search for answers about the accident.

Brett Hames was flown by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary following the accident, near Laycock, Keighley.

But despite paramedics' battle to save him, he died shortly afterwards.

Despite an extensive police investigation and public appeals for information, the exact circumstances of the incident have never been established.

Rebecca Gregory, whom he was due to marry next year, said: "I won't give up hope. One day I will get some answers.

"We know there were vehicles in the area at the time whose drivers haven't come forward and that Brett had to swerve to avoid somebody.

"Police believe they'll never know precisely what happened, but I will keep going until the full facts are known."

On Saturday, which would have been Brett's 25th birthday, Rebecca staged a fundraising fete at the Royal Oak in Keighley.

Attractions included stalls, children's activities, a raffle and tombola and the event raised £300 for charity.

"I was pleased with how it went," said Rebecca, 23.

"I raised £100 more than I was hoping for, which was great.

"I wanted to do something in tribute to the air ambulance for what it did to try to help Brett that day.

"It is a charity which relies on public support to keep flying.

"I'm planning to do something each year now on Brett's birthday in his memory and to raise money."

Rebecca also used the event to try to find new witnesses to the fatal crash.

Brett, an apprentice property engineer, was on his way home from work in Keighley on December 5 when the crash occurred in Pole Road – between Laycock and Cowling – at 2pm.

"Some of the people who came along hadn't read about the accident so I did get the message out to new people which was good," said Rebecca.

"Unfortunately nobody at the event was able to actually shed light on what did happen that day."

She said CCTV showed vehicles travelling towards and away from the location around the time of the accident, but because the images are blurred police cannot release the footage to the media.

She has launched an online petition – which has so far attracted over 700 signatures – at change.org, calling for any CCTV evidence relating to witness appeals in a police investigation to be made public.

And she is pressing for a meeting with MPs, including Keighley's Kris Hopkins, over the issue.

North Yorkshire Police say they are still keen to hear from anyone who could assist with the investigation.

A spokesman added: "Our thoughts remain with Rebecca and the rest of Brett's family.

"We appreciate what they are going through and that they want answers, but sadly – without these crucial witnesses – it is not possible to say exactly what happened to Brett."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Constable Dave Seavers on 101.
