WEST Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) will feature on national TV this tomorrow as part of Channel 5's Caught on Camera show.

The programme, due to air at 9pm, includes a compilation of footage from 'silent witness' cameras, which are installed on all 54 fire engines in the county's fleet.

Footage includes a fireworks attack on a firefighter during the bonfire period in 2013.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton (pictured) said: “Video technology is becoming increasingly more useful to us as the quality of image and the cost of the technology makes extensive use within our service ever more viable.

“Our operational staff witness many high impact events during the course of their duties and the ability to capture those events on video means that we can both share learning and experiences with others, and capture evidence for investigative purposes.

“We have plans to extend our use to include body worn cameras in the future. This will quite literally take anyone who views the footage to the heart of the emergency situation.”

WYFRS already trials the use of GoPro cameras in a limited number of specialist roles, such as for example Urban Search and Rescue.
