A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a teacher was stabbed at a school in Bradford.
The teenager appeared before Bradford and Keighley Youth Court today in connection with the attack on 50-year-old Vincent Uzomah in a classroom at Dixons Kings Academy in Lidget Green on Thursday.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also faces a charge of possession of cannabis.
The boy, wearing a black tracksuit emblazoned with a large white Adidas logo, spoke only to give his name, age and address, and confirm that he understood the proceedings.
He stood or sat with head bowed throughout the brief hearing.
Richard Canning, for the boy, told the court his client was denying the charge of attempted murder and there would be a trial.
The boy did not enter a plea for the charge of possession of cannabis.
Chairman of the bench, Gill Arnold, told the boy he would next appear at Bradford Crown Court on June 29, and would be remanded in a youth detention facility until that date.
Mr Uzomah, who suffered a wound to his stomach, has been in hospital since Thursday but his condition has been described as stable and non-life threatening.
He had only been working as a supply teacher at the school for a few weeks.
