GPs and Imams have joined forces to help patients manage diabetes during Ramadan.

An awareness event to get the health message across was held at Douglas Mill in Bowling Old Lane, the headquarters of NHS Bradford City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The idea of the open day was to advise Muslim patients with diabetes about how best to control their condition while fasting during the holy month,

Bradford (CCG) worked with local religious leaders of mosques to make it happen.

Dr Akram Khan, clinical chairman of Bradford City CCG, knows how important it is for patients to get the right advice as they prepare for Ramadan.

“We hope that the combination of GPs and imams will provide Muslims with expert advice to manage their diabetes safely, as well as the opportunity and motivation to focus on their health and make positive lifestyle changes during Ramadan.

"Imams are people who have a captive audience every Friday at prayers, and mosques will be particularly full during Ramadan, so we are very pleased that they are helping us to help spread these messages."
