WITNESSES to a street shooting heard loud bangs like fireworks and saw smoke coming out of the back of a car, Bradford Crown Court heard.
The vehicle sped off with screeching tyres and a masked man dressed all in black fled, concealing something in his clothing.
Glass and bullet casings were found at the scene of the shooting, in Thorn Street, Girlington, Bradford, which occurred at about 7.30pm on January 6, 2013.
The victim, convicted drug dealer Asif Khan, was shot clean through his right lower leg by one of six shots fired, probably from a Glock semi-automatic pistol.
He was sitting at the wheel of a blue Ford Focus when he was attacked.
Waqar Parvez, 32, of Higher Downs, Fairweather Green, Bradford, is accused by the Crown of persuading Khan to attend the rendezvous point after dark so that he could be shot and killed.
He denies conspiracy to murder Khan and an alternative offence of conspiracy to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent.
Witness Darren Walton told the police he "heard firework type sounds; five, and then another".
He saw a man in a black hooded sports jacket walking off down St Leonards Road.
Wasid Rehman heard bangs and saw smoke coming from the back of a car. There was a sound of glass smashing as it sped off.
A man sprinted away, but appeared confused and in a state of panic. He wore a black full face balaclava and "head to toe" black clothing.
He was concealing something under his top as he fled.
"He had a strange run, like he had heavy shoes on," Mr Rehman said.
Arshad Rehman told police: "I heard four really loud bangs and then a pause, and another bang."
Mr Rehman also described to police how there was lots of smoke and a car speeding off.
A young man was hiding something down the front of his trousers as he ran off. He headed towards Thornton Road and disappeared down an alleyway.
He had his hood up and his face was masked, Mr Rehman said.
None of the witnesses recognised anyone at the scene.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp yesterday told the jury Parvez was sentenced to two years imprisonment in 2007 after pleading guilty at Bradford Crown Court to possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply.
Khan is serving a four and a half year jail sentence for dealing Class A drugs and he was locked up for three years in 2006 for similar offences.
Mr Sharp said six shots were fired at the Ford Focus from the same gun. Five made holes in the driver's door and a sixth was consistent with an attempt to shoot out one of the tyres.
There were no fingerprints, fibres or other forensic links to place Parvez at the shooting.
