A PROJECT supporting Bradford adults who want to break addiction is organising a Big Chinwag later this month to help raise funds for Age UK and to beat isolation in older people.

Piccadilly Project, which is part of a national charity called Lifeline, is reaching out to the city's older community by hosting an event on Friday, June 19, from 1.30pm to 4pm at 17 Manor Row, Bradford.

Project worker Mehnaz Bibi said although the Chinwag event with its magic tricks, tombola, stalls and other entertainment is going to be a fun event, it is highlighting a serious issue.

"Sadly, loneliness is a huge issue that affects older people with over one million people aged 65 plus describing themselves as always or often feeling lonely. When older people are left feeling isolated, alcohol can become an issue."

Ms Bibi added: "By hosting our Big Chinwag event we can raise money to enable Age UK to change lonely lives through its vital work. Every penny does count - just £5 could provide a warm meal in the company of friends for an older person who lives alone."

The event is open to the public and the project is hoping local businesses will also help by donating prizes.
