A LONDON bus took to the streets of Bradford as a treat for people with learning difficulties.
The 1960 Routemaster was offered to Equality Together Disability Advice Bradford by owners Peter and Chris Heaps, after the father and son read in the Telegraph & Argus about the importance of trips for the disabled.
They took the eight-strong group, and their carers, on a tour of film locations in the district, free of charge, and hope to make further excursions in the vintage vehicle.
Peter and Chris, of Bolton Woods, have a keen interest in buses and at one time owned 12. Now they own only this one, a number 12, which travelled the route between Oxford Circus and Dulwich Library before being taken out of service by the then London Transport in 2004.
Retired relief signalman Peter said: “We thought it would be nostalgic for the group to ride the bus and visit locations for films such as Room at the Top, Billy Liar and Rita, Sue and Bob Too.”
Joyce Anderson, of Equality Together Disability Advice Bradford, said: “We were chuffed to bits by the offer - it was really nice of Peter and Chris and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
