CITY Library in Bradford was converted into a jungle for the opening day of a week-long children's book scheme.
A group of 50 parents and children aged under five were treated to a wild time to mark the beginning of Bookstart Week yesterday.
This included a jungle-themed rhyme time.
This year's theme, Jungle Adventures, is based on Giles Andreae's picture book Rumble in the Jungle.
A range of activities will be held in Council libraries throughout this week.
The scheme is looking to raise awareness of free book packs being made available to Bradford district children aged seven to nine months and then again when they are four, to encourage parents to read to their children from an early age.
Richard Dunn Sports Centre will stage a special rhyme time event tomorrow, where parents and children will take to the water at the site's jungle pool. This will be held between 9.30am and 10.30am.
Other activities include small animal experiences and jungle crafts, rhyme times, as well as a special storytime session in the Jungle Pool at Richard Dunn tomorrow.
Susan Brewster-Craig, development officer early years for Bookstart, said: "The City Library event was brilliant.
"Everyone had to walk through vines which were hanging from the ceiling.
"There were also pictures of parrots, monkeys and palm trees."
