AN Eldwick woman and her French pen pal paid an emotional visit to Yorkshire Air Museum to see a family wartime picture.
Jenny Dunn and Christine Palmade, from Ales in France, went to the museum in York today to see a photograph of the latter's father, Nicholas Barbara, now aged 93.
It is one of a series of historic images of French Squadrons who were based at the wartime RAF Elvington, where Mr Barbara served in the ground crew.
The photographs have been mounted on the walls of the original buildings, in the same spot where they were taken 70 years ago.
The pen friends, both now aged 56, started writing to each other in 1971 after they were introduced through the Penfriend League.
They have met only six times during their 44 years of corresponding.
For this visit, Mrs Palmade has stayed with Mrs Dunn's family for ten days in Stone Hill.
"It was very poignant and a bit emotional for both of us. There were a few tears.
"The day at the Yorkshire Air Museum went really well," said Mrs Dunn.
"We now contact each other through emails and Facebook after writing letters."
