A HOUSE being renovated was gutted by fire early this morning, with flames coming out the windows and roof at one point.
Fire crews from Bradford and Odsal stations were called out to the property on Hampden Street, Little Horton at 1.26am, with initial calls claiming a person was trapped inside.
When firefighters arrived they called a hydraulic unit to deal with the roof fire, in addition to the three engines called out. Four firefighters in breathing gear tackled the flames from inside the property while, hoses were used to deal with the flames from the roof.
The person living at the property managed to get out before crews arrived.
Watch commander Mark Rogerson said: "There was fire coming from the front and side windows, and lots of smoke coming from the roof. It turned out noone was inside the property. We think it was being renovated but someone was also living there.
"The fire had burned through the roof - the roof is completely gone, and two of the bedrooms are completely gutted.
"Over the next few days we will be talking to neighbours and fitting smoke detectors at properties in the area."
Neighbouring properties were smoke damaged in the incident.
A fire investigator and police are looking into the cause of the blaze.
