A MAN is in a critical condition with a serious head injury after he was punched to the ground.
The 52-year-old local man was injured in the assault at about 12.45am in the early hours of Sunday.
Detectives have now released CCTV images of people who may be able to help their investigations.
Police say a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.
The victim, who is in Leeds General Infirmary, had been in The Aviator public house on Yeadon High Street, when a separate altercation took place minutes before he was assaulted in the street, say police.
Detective Inspector Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said: "The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital and it’s vital we speak to as many people as possible who witnessed any part of the incident itself or the circumstances leading up to it.
"We are already in contact with some people who were there, but we urgently need to identify and speak to the people shown on these CCTV images. We are only interested in speaking to them as potential witnesses as they may have information that could assist the investigation.
"I would ask that those people, or anyone who knows who they are, contact us immediately.
"We are also keen to hear from anyone who was in The Aviator pub and witnessed the altercation that took place shortly before the victim was assaulted."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Constable Andy Smurthwaite or Detective Sergeant Stephen King at Elland Road via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
