KEIGHLEY police officers have discovered more than 40 cannabis plants being grown inside a property in Knowle Park.

Neighbourhood police team officers raided the building in Victoria Road at noon yesterday. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the officers had acted on a tip off that a strong smell of cannabis was coming from the building.

He added: "Upon entering the premises the officers discovered around 42 cannabis plants being cultivated in a bedroom.

"The occupant of the property, a 39-year-old local man, was arrested at the scene and taken to Bradford custody where enquiries are still ongoing."

Keighley Central Ward police sergeant Tany Ditta said: "I encourage local residents to contact the police if they have information in relation to drugs in their area.

"Local officers will take a robust stance against cannabis cultivation, use and dealing, and we rely on members of the public to assist us in catching the offenders and bringing them to justice.

"If people have any information that could assist the police we ask them to please contact their local Neighbourhood Police Team on the non-emergency 101 number or call 0800 555 111 to get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously."
