BRADFORD has been named as the sixth most likely place in the UK for a person to get their mobile phone or tablet stolen.
In the city 8.8 per cent of insurance claims for such devices are for theft. However, that figure is dwarfed by neighbouring Leeds, the number one city for phone theft with 28.6 per cent of insurance claims for phones being related to theft.
The figures were released by gadget insurer Protect Your Bubble and are based on 30,000 mobile and tablet claims made between October 2014 and March. The top five is rounded out with Belfast, London, Preston and Salford.
Those aged between 16 and 24 years old are more likely to have their handsets stolen.
Stephen Ebbett, global director of Protect Your Bubble, said: “There are cities where mobile and tablet thefts spike well above average, but incidences of theft are actually dropping year on year. Only 6 per cent of the claims we received in this six-month period were for thefts, down from 9 per cent the year before, and down from 11 per cent two years ago."
