A LUNG cancer patient claims he was left violently ill after drinking from a bottle of Morrisons's own springwater that he says was contaminated.
William Aikman, 55, says he drank from the bottle in the dark to swallow down painkillers.
He woke shaking, sweating and was violently ill after drinking from the small sports-type bottle of Pennine Vale water that carries Morison's M logo.
He had drunk the water, sourced at Shepley near Huddersfield, to wash down four tablets he routinely takes in the middle of the night and it was only when he woke ill and it was daylight that he noticed the rubbery bits of tubing like from blue surgical gloves floating round inside the bottle.
"My wife always puts a couple of little bottles on my bedside for me to take the tables with in the night. It was completely dark in the bedroom but I had though it tasted vile at the time.
"When I drank it I already had tablets in my mouth and I just swallowed it. It was only when I woke up feeling so ill that I saw what was actually in the bottle.
"The blue bits were like the cut off fingertips of surgical gloves, like little swimming caps. They had numbers printed on them."
The water had been bought as a pack of six from Morrison's Thornbury store, now Mr Aikman is calling on the superstore to recall the product and stop selling it until it is investigated.
"I believe I was made ill by whatever was in that water. It's obviously happened in the production process. Luck has it that the bottle was the squeeze type with a fitted lid you have to suck. If it had been an open-neck bottle I could have choked on it," he added.
Mr Aikman has reported it to Environmental Health at Bradford Council who advised him to return the water to the store so it can investigate and contact them again if he is not satisfied with the outcome.
"It needs to be investigated quickly. They can't sell it if this has happened. They need to warn people who've bought it and take it off the shelves until they have answers and can be assured by the supplier that it won't happen again.
"I'd like them to get it tested so I know what I've been drinking. It could have killed me."
A spokesman for Morrisons said: "We take customer complains extremely seriously and will always investigate the cause of any complain thoroughly.
"We are in the process of testing the contents of the bottles and will contact Mr Aikman to discuss the results as soon as we have them.”
