A JILTED man, who could not cope with his rejection, broke the nose of his former girlfriend when he punched her in the face, a court heard today.
Bradford Crown Court was told the attack happened less than two weeks after Jordan Line had committed another assault on Vanessa Farr.
Prosecutor Robert Galley said the couple had been in a relationship for about a month from last Christmas, but the complainant said problems arose in the relationship and she separated from him.
On February 17 this year, Miss Farr went on a training course at the Job Centre. She was concerned and anxious when Line turned up.
Mr Galley said the defendant became aggressive and followed Miss Farr for some distance to a footbridge in Otley Road, Bradford. He grabbed her by the hair and throat and pushed her back. She pushed him but he placed his forehead against her nose and shoved her head back. He also threatened to throw her over the bridge, punched her and knocked her mobile phone from her hand as she tried to alert her sister.
Mr Galley said the complainant contacted police but did not press charges because she feared repercussions.
On March 1 she was returning home after visiting a friend when she was confronted in the street by Line. She told police she had been to see the defendant and he had become aggressive. He punched her several times. She tried to get away but was chased down the road and punched in the nose, causing a nasal fracture.
Line was arrested and told police he was finding it difficult to get over the relationship.
Mr Galley said the complainant had been left very anxious and stressed and did not trust people.
Line, 21, of Studley Road, Bolton, Bradford, pleaded guilty to common assault and causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard Line had previous convictions for causing actual bodily harm and battery. He had been jailed for four years and five months in November 2012 for burglary and four robberies, but was released in October last year.
He had been recalled to prison following the assaults on Miss Farr and would now be held in custody until December next year.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC sentenced Line to 11 months imprisonment and made a restraining order prohibiting him without limit of time from contacting the complainant or going to her address.
The judge told him: "You've got to get over this relationship."
