A STREET will be official named on Sunday to commemorate a heroic Bradford paratrooper who was killed in Afghanistan.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2pm will officially open and name Martin Bell Way, off Westroyd Road, in a new housing development Wrose, Shipley.

Private Bell's family, including his proud mum Elaine Bell, will be there.

Mrs Bell, of Idle, has been leading a national campaign to get a street named after every soldier who died in the conflict.

Pte Bell (pictured) was the 350th British military fatality in Afghanistan.

He was killed in January 2011 by a bomb as he went to rescue a fellow soldier who had been injured by a similar explosive device in Helmand province .

The 24-year-old former Salt Grammar School pupil, who had joined the Army in 2009, was posthumously awarded a George Medal for his selfless action which saved the life of his wounded comrade.

Representatives of Pte Bell's parachute regiment and his Colonel will also be at the ceremony where Mrs Bell will release balloons.

She praised the house developer for its part in naming the street, saying: "Keepmoat Homes has been fabulous organising this."
