A RACE jacket worn by a Polish speedway legend has gone on display as part of an exhibition in Bradford.

Tomasz Gollob wore it in his final Grand Prix last month in Warsaw, Poland.

It is now at Bradford Industrial Museum as part of a speedway exhibition organised by John Murphy, an ardent fan of the sport.

He said: "The Tomasz Gollob race jacket, loaned by Matt Nicholson in Hull, is very special - it was worn by Tomasz in his final Grand Prix appearance, last month in Warsaw.

"To be candid, over the last 15 years or so, English riders have struggled to make a consistent mark in the World Championship. Tomasz Gollob kept my interest fresh as he was always likely to be the rider to do anything."

Mr Murphy added: "It was a privilege to visit the Polish church on Edmund Street, Bradford, recently, and ask Father Duracz for help in publicising the exhibition to our Polish community. Thankfully he was delighted to do this, and ironically Gollob did ride during his career for Tarnow, where Fr Duracz is from."

Mr Murphy also thanked Mick Fairbairn, who loaned some speedway bikes for the exhibition's centre-piece. He said: "Mick very kindly helped his two employees carry the bikes from storage, down four flights of a narrow, circular stairwell, and provided the van to transport them to the museum."
