CRIME fiction writers Bob and Carol Bridgestock, who served for nearly 50 years between them with West Yorkshire Police, are set to unveil their sixth novel in their home town of Brighouse next month.
The husband and wife authors will host a murder mystery evening at the Prego restaurant, with a percentage from the sale of each book going to the Forget Me Not Children's Hospice.
Following the event on June 26, the couple - who write their DI Dylan stories under the pen name RC Bridgestock - will spend a week in West Yorkshire promoting 'Killer Smile', including at a community reading group in Queensbury on July 1.
"We are trying really hard to add to the fundraising we managed on last year’s launch tour for Forget Me Not," said Mrs Bridgestock.
"We have chosen this event to launch the new DI Dylan book, and £2 from the sale of each book that night will go to the charity."
The murder mystery event has a gangsters and molls theme, with tickets costing £20, which includes a two-course meal.
Leeds singer Bethany Hare will perform on the night, and make-up artist Pamela Clare will host a demonstration of how people are made up to look like they have been wounded for film or TV.
Mrs Bridgestock said: "We have been lucky enough for our supporters to come along to add to the entertainment.
"There is a brilliant raffle, with prizes including a £300 make-up and photo shoot, and £100 worth of books from our publisher.
"We are going to add to that raffle by offering the chance to name a character in the next Dylan book in 2016.
"Our week up in the north is sure to be a full one!"
Mr Bridgestock rose to the rank of Detective Superintendent during his police career, taking charge of 26 murder cases, many in the Bradford area, and working on the Yorkshire Ripper inquiry.
His wife worked as a civilian with West Yorkshire Police and the couple clocked up 47 years service with the force between them.
They turned to writing crime fiction following retirement, and were recently voted eighth best 'Crime and Thriller Authors of All Time' - ahead of PD James - in a WH Smith poll.
The pair have worked as consultants on storylines and police procedures on TV series Scott and Bailey and TV crime drama Happy Valley, and are linking up with former Coronation Street producer Mervyn Watson in a bid to put their fictional detective character D.I. Jack Dylan on the small screen.
