A "DETERMINED and repetitive" drug dealer, who "peddled filth" on the streets, has been jailed for eight years.

Nadeem Ali, 23, continued to offend despite being twice bailed by police, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Jailing him, Judge David Hatton QC, told Ali: "I would be failing utterly in my public duty if I did not remove you from the streets from which you have been peddling this filth."

Prosecutor Paul Nicholson said the first set of offences was committed in May last year. Ali was stopped in a car in Russell Street, Keighley, by police. There was a struggle and the officers smashed the driver's window to get in the car.

Ali put drugs in his mouth but the officers were able to seize six wraps of heroin and three of crack cocaine from him. They also recovered two baseball bats and two claw hammers from the vehicle, and a phone with text messages indicating drug dealing.

Ali was bailed, but on August 20 he was stopped in the car park of Morrisons in Skipton and found to have 80 wraps of heroin and cocaine, worth £220. He was further bailed, but six days later he was seen going into Skipton railway station. When officers approached he dropped a plastic bag, containing heroin and crack cocaine, into a bin. He was again arrested.

Mr Nicholson said Ali had been given a suspended prison sentence in 2011 for possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Ali, of Drewry Road, Keighley, pleaded guilty to six charges of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

His barrister, Adam Walker, said his client's role was to deliver drugs under instructions from others who had a hold over him because of a debt he had accrued.

But Judge David Hatton QC said Ali had played a significant role.

He added: "You are clearly a determined and repetitive supplier of class A drugs."

The judge said Ali had continued undeterred with his street dealing despite being granted bail.

He added: "It is perfectly clear that only a custodial sentence is appropriate."

Judge Hatton sentenced Ali to three years imprisonment for the offences in Keighley, and five years, to run consecutively, for the drug dealing in Skipton.

After the case, Inspector Sue Sanderson, of the Keighley Area Neighbourhood Team, said: "We are pleased with the sentence Ali has received, which demonstrates the dim view the courts take of those who peddle illegal substances on our streets.

"Drug dealing will not be tolerated in Keighley and we hope this sentence serves as a warning to those who continue to commit these offences.

"We would also ask anyone with information about drug dealing in their area to contact their local Area Neighbourhood Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
