A DRUG addict who stole charity boxes in a burglary spree in his local area has been jailed for eight months.
Shamal Hussain's "impressive letter" to the judge led to him being given another chance six months ago after he raided a pharmacy and two takeaways in Bradford's Duckworth Lane area in the space of four days.
Hussain, 28, appeared at Bradford Crown Court in custody on November 20 when his sentence was deferred until yesterday.
He pleaded with Judge Colin Burn to give him a chance to wean himself off Class A drugs and lead an honest life.
But Hussain, 28, of Agar Terrance, Girlington, Bradford, had been arrested again and kept behind bars before he was jailed yesterday.
Judge Burn said Hussain had failed to keep his side of the bargain, to break his cycle of drug addiction and offending, and so must be imprisoned.
"This was a spree of offending in an area where you were living, showing a degree of persistence and desperation," the judge said.
Hussan's barrister, Kate Batty, said he had been offending to feed a Class A drug addiction.
