A 60 YEAR-OLD man has died after suffering a suspected stroke behind the wheel of his car near Brighouse.
It is believed he became ill while driving his blue Nissan off a drive onto Brookfoot Lane in Southowram, where he then collided with a black Range Rover.
The incident happened at 8.35am on Saturday, and the man was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
He died in hospital later that afternoon.
The driver of the Range Rover suffered slight facial injuries as a result of the collision.
Fire crews from Brighouse and Elland cut the man out of the vehicle, and a spokesman for the Brighouse crew confirmed he had suffered what appeared to be a stroke before joining the flow of traffic.
It is thought he died as a result of a medical episode as opposed to any injuries suffered in the crash, although a post-mortem will now be carried out.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services were at the scene, causing long traffic delays in all directions.
