A HABITUAL shoplifter who stole to fund his drug and alcohol habit has been sent to prison for 18 months.
Jason Green, who appeared at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, previously pleaded guilty to three shoplifting charges at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates.
He had been given a deferred sentence and banned from going to Farmfoods Greengates or associating with others who had been involved.
But the Crown Court heard Green, 42, of Sandhill Mount, Thorpe Edge, had gone on to re-offend by shoplifting again numerous times and broke his ASBO conditions.
The extra offences were added to the existing three when he was sentenced at the Crown Court yesterday.
Items he stole included coffee, meat, cheese and toiletries adding up to £836.
It's not the value that makes this serious. It's the determined and persistent nature of it," said Recorder Richard Woolfall.
"It was brazen. You just walked in and took what you wanted. The time has come that these shopkeepers and assistants need a rest and must be given one."
