A DATE has been set for a planning inquiry into an appeal over a controversial extension to a hotel and restaurant in Brighouse.
The inquiry into the Casa Hotel and Restaurant, Elland Road, will take place at Halifax Town Hall from June 2, and is expected to last four days.
It concerns an appeal over the refusal of planning permission and an enforcement notice served by Calderdale Council over the extension.
Planning permission was granted in 2009 for an extension to the venue's conference and function facilities. However an enforcement notice in July last year required the building to be removed.
A revised partly retrospective application for a three-storey extension was refused in August amid concerns about the impact on the green belt. The revised scheme is 2.5 times bigger than the plans previously approved and includes an extra storey, according to a Council report.
It will be up to the planning inspector to rule whether Castelite Ltd, the company behind Casa, should be allowed to keep the extension.
