A PETROL kiosk attendant stole from Sainsbury's by dishonestly failing to charge two customers the full amount, a jury at Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Ali Yousuf, 23, who hopes to study accountancy at university, is said to have committed two offences of theft while working for the supermarket chain on Harrogate Road, Bradford.
Yousuf, of Poplar Grove, Wibsey, Bradford, denies theft on March 29 and April 6 last year.
Prosecutor Clare Walsh said the Crown's case was that Ali failed to charge a former work colleague, and then a friend, the full amount for goods. It was not an allegation that he pocketed any money for himself.
Mrs Walsh said Yousuf did not charge for £5 of petrol, a New Scientist magazine and £8.20 worth of food on the first occasion.
He is accused of charging £1.29 for items worth £11.85 on the second occasion.
Mrs Walsh showed the jury CCTV she said showed Yousuf blocking the bar code with his hand while apparently scanning goods.
He is also said to have pressed a cancel button to void a transaction.
Yousuf said he made honest mistakes after being employed by Sainsbury's for several years.
The trial continues.
