SEVEN vehicles were taken off the road for being unroadworthy during a traffic operation, carried out at Thornbury roundabout, to tackle vehicle crime.
A total of 55 taxis, vans, cars and HGVs were stopped during the day of action which involved police, taxi licensing authorities, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, and Revenue and Customs.
Many of the unroadworthy vehicles had bald tyres. Three prohibition notices were issued requiring the vehicles to get an MOT within seven days. Four other vehicles must have an MOT test within ten days. Faults found included a faulty drive shaft, faulty exhausts and fused light bulbs.
A number of taxis were suspended until documents were produced. HM Revenue and customs found red diesel in a van, for which the van driver was fined £545.
Police issued a range of tickets and dealt with someone who was found in possession of cannabis.
