THE organisers of the second Queensbury 1940s event have promised an all-singing, all-dancing affair.

Chapel Lane in the village will be closed off on June 20 and filled with entertainment, music, stalls, army and display vehicles, a climbing wall and people in 1940s clothing.

The event was first held last year, in September, and was so well-received that it is back by popular demand.

A committee set up to organise the event believes this year's will be much bigger and much better. Its members donned 1940s dress for a meeting at the George III pub in the village yesterday.

Joan Milner, who is on the committee, said: "It is going to be bigger and better than last year.

"There will be live entertainment on the street, army and display vehicles, fairground rides, Holy Trinity choir, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bradford are coming, various stalls, a burger van for the kids and a sub aqua boat.

"I am very excited. Last year was trial and error when we did it.

"But I am really excited - it's only four weeks away now and we want everyone to come dressed in 1940s outfits!"

Fellow committee member Sue Dickerson said: "We are definitely excited about it. It is going to be bigger and better than last year.

"There are more events going on, lots of entertainment, more singing and more dancing.

"As soon as we had done the first one we were being asked to do another. Straight away people were talking about next year's event."

She added: "It is absolutely a community event, a 1940s event, a joyous occasion."

Councillor Paul Cromie (Ind, Queensbury) said he would be attending the event.

"It is brilliant that it is on again," he said. "It is all community-building. Also, with it being this year the 70th anniversary of VE Day, it all ties in nicely.

"It is something that people in Queensbury enjoyed last year and it has taken off."

There will be evening entertainment at a 1940s-decorated Queensbury Conservative Club, including a Dame Vera Lynn tribute act. Tickets are available from Mrs Milner on 01274 428820 or 07739 112426.

She said: "We expect ticket sales to be brisk, so ensure your place by buying early, as the number of people attending will be limited to 150 to allow room for a dance floor."
