PLANS for almost 100 flats opposite the Bradford Broadway shopping centre have been submitted.
The proposal is a for a mixture of one and two bedrooms apartments over seven of the eight floors at at Arndale House in Charles Street.
The development, submitted to Bradford Council by London-based Augur Investments Limited, will include 14 flats on each floor, four of which are two bedroom flats and ten are one bedroom flats.
It is proposed there will be a total of 28 two bedroom and 70 one bedroom flats in the complex.
The site has access to vehicles through a basement car park but the report does not specify how many spaces it has.
No-one at Augur Investments Limited was available to speak to the Telegraph & Argus but a transport statement and Framework Travel Plan (FTP), have been submitted by developers to encourage any future residents who occupy a flat to use other modes of transport apart from cars.
It says measures to reduce car use and promote walking, cycling, car sharing and using public transport will be in place before residents would move into the development.
All potential residents would receive information on the FTP within two weeks of moving in. They will also be given contact details of the site's 'Travel Plan co-ordinator', who can advise on alternative travel options for their journeys.
The travel plan report says: "Arndale House is considered to be a sustainable location with existing, cycling and public transport facilities in proximity of the building."
Bradford Council leader David Green has previously expressed concern about the numbers of small flats being built in the city centre saying they were likely to attract a "transient" population.
He said: "I have not looked at the plans for this site in much detail yet. It's a question about the size of the flats and the quality.
"Will the people behind it be looking at selling the flats to investors or for owner occupation?
"What we need to do is develop a vibrant community in the city centre.
"If the accommodation is small, then it won't add to the city centre.
"It needs to fit in with the other plans for the city centre."
Plans for a six-screen 'boutique' cinema next to the Broadway shopping centre, which will also feature a leisure and dining complex, were unveiled last month.
The lower floors of Arndale House are being redeveloped and rebranded as The Xchange, a shopping complex designed to complement the Broadway shopping centre.
The first two floors of the building, underneath the proposed flat developments, will be reconfigured to offer up to nine shops or restaurant units across 44,000 sq ft of retail space.
But work has yet to start on this development.
