DRIVERS have been warned that major roadworks scheduled to last ten months start at Chain Bar roundabout on Monday.

Work is being carried out to add an extra lane at junction 26 on the M62 where it meets the M606 to Bradford.

The roundabout will also be widened from three lanes to four but all existing three lanes will remain open during the day to keep delays to a minimum.

The roundabout will be reduced to a single lane overnight between 7pm and 6am, Monday to Friday and the work is planned to be completed by the end of next March.

Additional full Saturday night closures will be required at times for safety reasons. These closures will be carried out from 7pm on Saturdays until 9am on Sundays to minimise disruption to drivers.

The closures will be announced nearer the time and clearly signed diversions will be in place.

Throughout the work carried out by Highways England, a temporary speed limit of 30mph will be put in place on all the approaches to the roundabout and on the roundabout itself.

Once complete, the scheme is aimed at reducing congestion at the roundabout and reduce queueing on the M62 westbound exit slip road.

Safety improvements are also being made for pedestrians and cyclists.
