A BAN on heavy lorries driving through a village has come into force.
Bradford Council imposed the traffic regulation order in Laycock on Tuesday barring vehicles that weigh more than 7.5 tonnes.
The ban was this week welcomed by ward councillors Jan Smithies (pictured) and Adrian Farley, who spearheaded the campaign against the danger wagons.
But they renewed a warning that the order only applied to heavy goods vehicles using Laycock as a through-route to other destinations.
Lorry drivers are still allowed to use the village if they have to reach farms on the nearby hills and there is no alternative route.
The council made the traffic relation order on April 28, to impose an ‘area prohibition’ for driving vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
The two district councils had launched their campaign following complaints from Laycock residents about an increase in large vehicles using the narrow main street.
