AN UNEXPECTED road closure past one of Wharfedale's polling stations has left villagers fuming today.
Voters heading to the polling station at The Hermit pub, Moor Road, Burley Woodhead, this morning were met with 'road closed' signs at a nearby junction. They raised the alarm via social networking website Twitter.
Alison Kinloch tweeted "Don't think @bradfordmdc want people in Burley Woodhead to vote closing the road outside the polling station."
On Twitter Bradford Council moved to reassure residents the polling station is open today, despite road works in Moor Road.
A Council spokesman later added: "This has been work carried out by Yorkshire Water without our permission. We will be taking appropriate action under our Highway Permit Scheme Legislation regarding the matter.
"Although works are continuing we have ensured that there is access to the polling station."
