HIGHFIELD Community Centre in Keighley will celebrate its tenth anniversary later this month.

Highfield Community Association has organised the event on Wednesday, May 27, which will include stalls, food, face painting, henna, games, a bouncy castle and a tombola at the building in Drewry Road, from 1pm to 4pm.

The centre was built on the site of the former Highfield Middle School and included a nursery, sports hall, offices, meeting rooms and sauna.

The centre was officially opened back in 2005 by Lynne Joyce, the Bradford councillor who spearheaded efforts to get it built while she was chairman of the Keighley and Highfield Single Regeneration Budget committees.

The building was originally the base for both a Sure Start children’s centre and a Kiddicare day nursery, as well as being used by several other agencies and community groups.

The ceremony, held several months after the actual opening, was coupled with a fun day attended by around 200 people.
