A DRIVE has started to up household recycling rates on a Keighley housing estate.

Bradford Council staff are promoting the message at Braithwaite, where, already, scores of extra recycling bins are now in use.

“The team aims to speak to as many householders as possible on alternate Fridays – when the recycling collection takes place,” said a council spokesman.

“Members will see who is recycling well already, leaving them a thank-you card, and talk to anyone who isn’t recycling.

“They will encourage people to recycle more or different materials.

“On the first attempt, the team signed-up about 50 households for recycling bins, and since then it has reported a big increase in the number of bins out for collection.”

Meanwhile, council wardens have visited residents in the Dockroyd and Providence areas of Oakworth in response to frequent complaints about dog fouling.

Meanwhile, pooch owners in the Dockroyd and Providence areas of Oakworth are being invited to sign-up to a Green Dog Walker scheme, in which they pledge to pick-up after their own pet and offer bags to other owners.
