A SHEEP had to be treated by a vet after it was attacked by a dog in a field at Micklethwaite.
The dog, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, was allegedly off its lead in the private field at Beck Road.
After West Yorkshire Police revealed details of the incident, a person claiming to be the dog’s owner came forward.
Following the incident, police issued a reminder to all dog owners about the importance of controlling their animals on or near farmland.
A spokesman said: “It is vital dogs on a lead when around livestock, even if you can usually trust your dog to come to call.
“If you live in or near a farming area, you must make sure that your dog cannot escape from your property, as it may find its way onto land containing sheep.
“It is every dog’s instinct to chase, even if they are usually obedient and good with other animals.”
