TWO care providers in Bradford have been rated as inadequate in the latest round of Care Quality Commission reports.

Dignicare and Malvern Nursing Home were among 60 reports published yesterday on the quality of care provided organisations across the north of England. Four other care providers were also rated inadequate.

The providers were assessed in five categories - safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.

The watchdog found that the Heaton-based Malvern home was 'inadequate' in the safe and well-led areas. It 'requires improvement' in the other three, giving an overall CQC rating of 'inadequate'.

The report said of Malvern: "The service was not safe. Medication policies and procedures were in place. However, we found the nurses on duty at the time of the inspection did not follow the correct procedures when administering medicines, which put people at risk of receiving the wrong medication."

Bingley-based Dignicare 'requires improvement' in the caring category, but was inadequate in the other four, according to the CQC, giving it an overall 'inadequate' rating.

The report's section on safety said: "The service was not safe. Eight people were on occasion left without support overnight for significantly longer than stated in their care assessments which increased the risk of harm."

Debbie Westhead, CQC's deputy chief inspector for adult social care in the north, (pictured) said: "Whenever we find a service to be 'inadequate', we will consider taking further action on behalf of the people who use the service."
