Hundreds of Latvians from across the UK attended the first Latvian Festival of Culture in Bradford’s Centenary Square yesterday.
The event saw people dressing in traditional clothing to perform dances, songs and play music. Despite a rainy start, it was well attended.
Organisers told the T&A the event had been such a success they were hoping to have a similar day celebrating Eastern European Culture as part of the annual Bradford Festival.
Maris Pulis, who runs a Latvian folk dance group, said: “The Council has been tremendously helpful with this, and we hope to repeat it in the future. The whole idea is to celebrate the city’s ethnic diversity.”
