BRADFORD College students have worked with children and young people to raise disability awareness in schools and colleges across the district.
During their visits to the schools, the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity students delivered practical coaching sessions to pupils, helping to develop their running, catching, passing, movement and communication skills further.
The students volunteered their service and helped the pupils develop as athletes. Pictured are Bradley Thomas, Danni Baker, Ben Greaves, Conor Woods and Abdullah Din.
Sports student Jason Anderson, 18, would like to pursue a career as a Sports Coach once he has completed his studies.
He said: “It’s great experience. I’ve never had the opportunity to work with disabled pupils before so it’s helped me develop my skills as a coach. It’s also very rewarding to see the pupils develop and improve their sports skills.”
Student Bradley Thomas, 19, added: “I’d like to teach in primary schools and specialise in Sports Coaching. Having the opportunity to coach these children has been great, especially as I would like to do this as a future career. We’ve had the chance to work with children of varying abilities. I’ve got a lot out of it! It’s been great to build up a rapport with the children and see them enjoying themselves, whilst also developing their sporting skills.”
Sports Academies Manager Ben Greaves and Sports Lecturer Danni Baker have been spearheading the campaign to ensure the students gain practical sports coaching, while also raising disability awareness in schools and colleges.
