A SALTAIRE bike shop is sponsoring an extreme cycling team as it takes on its latest world record challenge.
All Terrain Cycles is backing Ultra6’s attempt to cycle up one of the most gruelling mountains in the Tour de France 19 times in just over three days.
The team, from Keighley and Guiseley, will attempt the equivalent of cycling 100,000 ft, far enough to reach space.
Members include All Terrain Cycles mechanic and workshop manager Ben Wood, Nick Jovanovic, Matt Robinson, and Andy North and James Welsh.
Mr Wood said: “This latest Race to Space challenge is pretty daunting, even by our standards. Basically, we’re a group of ordinary, like-minded guys who are passionate about fitness and aim to do mad things in the hope that it will inspire other people to take up sport and exercise as well as raising funds for charities we care about.”
They plan to travel to France in early July to take on the infamous Mont Ventoux, in an attempt to set a new world record for the most feet climbed on a bicycle in a single ride on one mountain. The Ultra6 team has already achieved two world records and will be undertaking this latest challenge to raise funds for ABF, the Soldiers’ Charity.
