MORE than 3,000 people nationwide are helping find Megan - a missing Bradford dog who is desperately needed back home.

A reward is up for the safe return of the six-year-old Red Fox Labrador who disappeared from her Harecroft home near Wilsden on February 9.

The #FindMegan Facebook appeal continues to touch hearts but so far has failed to come up with Megan's whereabouts, says her heartbroken owners Alison and Mike Blackburn, who is a heart surgeon.

What makes Megan's absence even worse for the family who have a grown-up daughter is that she is a 'carer' for golden Labrador Maisie who is a bit younger but more like a five-month-old puppy in size because she had dwarfism.

She also has the dog-version of Down Syndrome and is pining away without her pal.

Family friend Kim Breckon said: "They are slowly losing Maisie too. Megan is like a sister and carer to her. Basically she teachers her how to be a dog. "We have to get Megan back but we've tried everything. We've been out searching the area, the quarries and reservoirs. We've left some of Mike and Alison's clothes to help her pick up the sense if she's got lost and taken Maisie out too in case she picks up her smell. Maisie can't bark because of her condition but we were hoping she could help by coming outwith us. We do believe Megan has been stolen now. If she'd still been out there we would've found her," said Ms Breckon.

Megan herself is not without health problems, she will be in pain without her medication for a hip problem that also needs regular acupuncture and hydrotherapy.

The day Megan went missing she had been let out of the house with Maisie, while her owners went to sort out their horses.

"When Mike called for them to come back only Maisie returned, there was no sign of Megan and there hasn't been since," added Ms Breckon

Megan is microchipped, has a small white patch on her chest and a surgical scar in the middle of her lower lip. She also has an appreciation for tennis balls.

Megan's family and friends have been working their way through every listed vet in England, sending them e-mails to ask them to scan all Red Fox Labradors who come their way. The Dog's Trust has also been alerted.

Ms Breckon said: "Maisie is sleeping all the time, she's very depressed. We desperately need Megan back."

If you know of her whereabouts, or have seen her, you can get in touch with the owners by searching ‘#FindMegan’ on Facebook or follow @FindMegan2 on Twitter.
