A MAN, 22, who led police on a 90mph pursuit across Bradford in a stolen white Audi A3 has been jailed for nine months.

Kyle Jones panicked when he was spotted on the Shipley-Airedale Road because he was uninsured, Bradford Crown Court heard.

He tore off in the high-powered car, chased by patrol officers who were on the look-out for the stolen vehicle.

The car was taken in a house burglary in the early hours of October 27, last year, prosecutor Paul Nicholson said yesterday.

That afternoon, police saw Jones at the wheel and chased after him, with blue lights flashing and sirens on.

Mr Nicholson said pursuing officers reported that Jones was going at up to 90mph in a 30mph zone.

They lost sight of him on Wakefield Road and, minutes later, came across the crashed Audi at the side of the road.

It had collided with a Peugeot 308, causing extensive damage to that vehicle.

Jones, of Bierley House Avenue, Bierley, Bradford, fled from the scene on foot but was apprehended nearby, the court heard.

His barrister, Jeremy Hill-Baker, said he pleaded guilty at the magistrates court at the earliest opportunity.

He had no similar previous convictions and his partner had recently given birth to a baby daughter.

Jones admitted aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving on Wakefield Road and Parry Lane, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said it was serious criminality that could be met only by a sentence of immediate imprisonment.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC banned Jones from driving for 12 months and told him he would have to take an extended driving test to drive legally in the future.
