A TUTOR at Shipley College has raised almost £700 by winning a charity his first white-collar boxing match.
Matthew Green, a learning coach and part-time sports lecturer at the college, entered the ring for the first time at the event in Halifax, organised to raise money for Cancer Research.
Mr Green had been motivated to take part in the event after his father-in-law recently died of lung cancer.
His fundraising total has now reached £670.
White Collar Boxing is a sport that is rising in popularity, and features non professionals facing off, usually for charity.
Mr Green had eight week’s training before the bout, last month.
Despite his victory he does not plan on stepping back into the ring any time soon, although he has not ruled out a return..
Speaking after his match he said: “I was confident, but on the night it was tough, I had to work hard for it. I knocked him down in the second round and broke his nose but he got up again.
I haven’t got any injuries but I’m aching a bit. I was delighted to win.”
