A STEAM railway this weekend celebrates the 45th anniversary of an iconic movie which catapulted the line to international stardom.
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (K&WVR) is marking the milestone with activities from Saturday to Monday.
Filming of The Railway Children, in 1970, brought stars including Bernard Cribbins and a young Jenny Agutter to the five-mile line. Many of the scenes were shot around Oakworth Station, where re-enactments and guided tours will take place as part of the weekend.
A special timetable will be in operation, using some of the carriages from the film.
A third edition of the popular book The Making of the Railway Children, by K&WVR worker Jim Shipley, will be officially launched.
There will also be guided, Railway Children circular walks taking in many of the filming locations.
And a host of activities will take place at the Museum of Rail Travel, Ingrow.
“People will be able to join in the magic of the film and learn more about its production,” said a spokesman.
The book launch will be attended by actor Chris Witty. He appeared in the movie as Jim, the boy who fell in the tunnel and injured his leg during a paper chase.
