A MAN arrested for brandishing a sword in Bradford's Lister Park last night has been released without charge.

He was detained for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and police said he had been "strongly advised" over his "unacceptable" conduct.

The man, who was found to be possession of two ornamental swords, had told police he was a martial arts instructor and was simply out practising his routines.

Witnesses reported the incident to police at around 5.30pm yesterday, and armed officers descended on the park to arrest the man.

Inspector Tom Horner, who leads the Bradford West Area Neighbourhood Team, said: "Officers strongly advised the man that his conduct was causing alarm to others in a public place.

"He said he was practising martial arts moves alone, and did not intend to harm anyone, but admitted his behaviour was unacceptable.

"All reports of incidents involving weapons are treated seriously and will be met with a swift and robust police response."
