THE Liberal Democrats have unveiled a pledged to give a £250 carer’s bonus to those looking after loved ones who are older, disabled or seriously ill.
The announcement came as the party revealed its Disability Manifesto.
The Liberal Democrat candidate in Bradford East, David Ward, welcomed the pledge, saying if it came into force it would help 2,220 carers in the constituency.
Mr Ward said: “Currently 2,200 adults in Bradford East are supporting a family memberwho is older, disabled or seriously ill.“Carers are the unsung heroes in our community, quietly going about helping their loved ones without seeking favour or thanks for their kindness.
But more needs to be done to help carers get the support they deserve – which is why I’m so proud to support our Disability Manifesto. The £250 bonus can make a real difference to the 8700 carers’ lives across the whole of Bradford.”
Also standing in Bradford East are Imran Hussain for Labour, Iftikhar Ahmed for the Conservatives, Owais Rajput for Ukip, Dave Stevens for the Greens and James Lewthwaite for the British Democrats.
