RUNNERS from the Bradford district were among more than 38,000 on the capital’s streets for yesterday’s London Marathon.
Steve Thorpe, 51, of Prince Street, Haworth, completed the 26.2-mile course in 4 hrs 15 mins 40 secs. Gardener Mr Thorpe was raising funds in memory of his mum Margaret who died in 2012. He has raised £1,600 for Sue Ryder.
Mr Thorpe said: “It was emotional. I was thinking about my mum when I was running round.”
Jonathan Wensley, of Titus Street, Saltaire, finished in 4 hrs 22 mins 43 secs. Mr Wensley, who suffers from a degenerative eye condition, is hoping to raise more than £1,650 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
Shane Nicholl, 25, of Apperley Bridge, suffers from depression and continued his challenge of running 15 marathons this year, posting 4 hrs 3 mins 25 secs. He ran for Mind.
William Woodhead, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, crossed the line in 4 hrs 26 mins 24 secs.
