A FACTORY branded an eyesore can be pulled down and replaced with a new budget supermarket, a planning committee has decided.
The former base of Seabrook Crisps in Allerton has been vacant since 2004 and suffered a major blaze last May.
Yesterday, a plan to turn the site into a new Aldi store was given planning approval at Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee.
The plan, set out by Aldi, Seabrook and Aldi’s project manager Rock Regeneration, looks set to create 40 jobs.
Seabrook chief executive Jonathan Bye said: “It is fantastic news for the Allerton residents. We are delighted that approval has been given.”
Ward councillor Richard Dunbar also welcomed the news.
He said: “The majority of local residents came to me and said they were in support of the Aldi store. Not only is it affordable in terms of being cheaper than other supermarkets, but it is also going to offer 40 full-time and part-time jobs to the local area.”
