THE National Farmers’ Union is calling on farmers across the Bradford district to take part in a national survey to assess the impact of electricity pylons and poles on farming businesses.

The survey is being carried out on behalf of the NFU and Energy Networks Association, and is the first of its type in more than 20 years.

It will help in determining future compensation for farmers who have poles or pylons on their land for the land taken out of production, but also for the interference from having to work around the structures.

NFU county adviser Lucinda Douglas said it was vital that as many farmers as possible respond to the survey so that a clear picture emerges of how individual farm businesses are affected.

“We have been pushing hard for this survey to be carried out, arguing that developments in agriculture and the increasing size of farm machinery render current compensation levels inadequate,” she said.

The survey can be found at nfuonline.com. The deadline for responding is Monday, May 4.
