BRADFORD Council has announced its intention to bring in 20-mph speed limits affecting two streets in Keighley.
The district council is proposing to implement the restriction in Woodworth Grove and Hainworth Lane.
The news has been welcomed by Keighley town councillor and watch and transport committee chairman Councillor Michael Westerman.
However, he warned that it could prove difficult to enforce the new limit.
“We always ask for 20-mph speed limits in these built up areas, especially when there’s a potential for children to be playing outside,” he added.
“A couple of years ago the government said that inner city areas should be 20mph.
“There are now already so many 20mph speed limits in Keighley that more people are asking for it to be brought in outside their own houses.
“But it is the enforcement that’s the big question, as who is going to police it? You can’t have a police officer on every street corner saying ‘you can’t go faster than 20 miles per hour.”
