YORKSHIRE has been revealed as the “road kill” capital of the UK, with cats being the most likely animal to be hit by a car in the county.
A new survey found that 63 per cent of UK drivers have been involved in an accident involving an animal, and of these, 26 per cent said it happened in Yorkshire and the Humberside.
Like in three other counties, cats were listed as the most common victims of car accidents in Yorkshire.
The research was carried out by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, and involved 3,345 people from across the UK being asked if they had been involved in such an accident, and where it took place.
The North East was the safest region for animals, with only two per cent of animal/vehicle accidents happening there.
Nick Swan, CEO of the company, said: “These results are really upsetting. It’s sad to see that so many animals are dying each year as a result of being hit by vehicles; however it is sometimes unavoidable. Britons really need to be more careful when driving to ensure that they are not responsible for the death of any animals.”
