THE owner of a caravan park has appealed against a Bradford Council ruling preventing more units being stored on the site.
John Rathmell’s application to increase the number of caravans stored on Jacmil, Tong Lane, Tong, from 83 to 115 was refused by planning officers in February.
They said more caravans in an otherwise open and undeveloped area would result in significant harm to its character and appearance.
An appeal has now been lodged with the Secretary of State.
It says: “The proposal was not to extend the approved site further into the Green Belt. The proposal was simply to increase the density of the existing site.
“The site was originally approved because the council considered that very special circumstances applied due to the particular need for this specialist facility in the district.
“This demand still outweighs provision in the area and there is very limited availability elsewhere.”
